X1906 X4123 With reference to the forthcoming conference to decide what action shall be taken in order to eliminate the troubles complained of in Eagle engines in the hands of the Imperial Airways, the following is placed on record. All the points were not dealt with in my previous memo. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} on this subject, and I will again go over those which will form the subject of this conference. Valves, gears, crankcases, water jackets, water pumps and gudgeon pin locking bar. In regard to water jackets, may consideration be given to the question of supplying the Imperial Airways with cylinders which may be fitted to either (a) or (b) side as desired. In regard to water pumps, I am informed that the recent pump with the wide thrust washer has a lift of approx. 60 hrs. before replacement of the washer is necessary. The Imperial Airways have on their charge :- 20 Lion Engines. 6 Jaguar engines. 7 Puma Engines. 22 Eagle Vlll engines. 6 Eagle lX engines. which we detail below, showing the total hrs. flown to date :- Valve.Gears.Ignition.Carbs.Oil.Water.Miscellaneous.TOTAL.
