27962 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}14/KW. 5th September, 1934. R.{Sir Henry Royce} Pentony. Esq., Messrs. Cam Gears Ltd., Biscot Road Works, Luton, Beds. Dear Mr. Pentony, I handed on your letter to E.R. Hall to get his views on the merits of a worm and nut steering. His opinion, in no way politely stated, was that there is no comparison between our worm and nut and the Bishop gear and that although the Lagonda might be faster on the straights, the Bentley was always in the lead after the twisty parts of the course. If as you say the Lagonda was faster on the straight and corners, and on pit work, then why may I ask was the Bentley ahead of it at such a time that the Bentley had had two pit stops to one of the Lagonda. Yours sincerely, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
