CONTINENTAL P.III.

With reference to Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}11/E.23.7.37., the three large items in which costs will be saved on the Continental P.III are - the brakes which are worth £16, the road springs which are worth £3/10/-, and the steering gear which is worth £4/17/6d.

It is proposed to run these parts on the Continental P.III which are at present prepared for a 15,000 miles' test, and if successful, they could be standardised forthwith.

The majority of the other features enumerated in Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}6/R.2.7.37. are already fitted to 32-EX, and will be standardised at the completion of the present 15,000 miles' test.

We shall incorporate several economies on the Continental P.III engine, which include using the 25/30 horse-power dynamo, and again, if successful, there is no reason why they should not be standardised.

The present position is that we have promised to have 39-EX ready for a 15,000 miles' test in two months' time. In any case, we should propose to run this car with an increased power output, even though the result might be a rougher engine than standard, the idea being to prove the mechanical features of the engine, so that if at any subsequent period we found out how to cut out the roughness by an improved engine mounting, advantage could be taken of the increased performance with the minimum delay.
