RE LUCAS DYNAMO WIRING AND BATTERIES. Attached is a copy of a letter received from Messrs. Lucas since their return to work on Monday, which deals with a number of points we have taken up with them in separate letters recently. DYNAMO BEARINGS. The E.575 dynamos so far received from Messrs. Lucas have been fitted with Skeffko bearings. We had a failure of one of these bearings on the experimental car; Messrs. Lucas will accordingly fit Hoffmann bearings to further dynamos supplied to us, and they are sending to us at the moment a number of Hoffmann bearings in order that we may change these on dynamos already at the works (about one dozen or perhaps 14. Incidentally, it appears as though we shall require a further supply of Hoffmann bearings for this purpose). Will Mr. Bailey kindly give instructions for this change to be carried out on dynamos in hand. DYNAMO ARMATURE SLOTS. We have asked for all Lucas dynamos to be supplied with skewed armature slots for the purpose of reducing the hum of these dynamos, which occurs at a speed just a little above the cutting in speed, but may have been partly due to the bearings. As soon as the sample machine with this modification is received, we shall run this and be able to say definitely whether this trouble is overcome. For the present, there seems no alternative Contd | ||
