+8260 To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to CJ. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}3/M5. 9. 9. 25. NEW PHANTOMCodename for PHANTOM I PETROL TANK. X. 8460 X. 8190 We send herewith N.sch. 2051 shewing some modifications to the petrol tank which have been made as a result of representations from Sales, etc., and which we wish embodied in the new tank with reserve compartment. The principal alterations are :- (1) Area of outlet filters increased. (2) Filter shifted to centre of tank. (3) Knurled top to the 2-way tap to reduce the possibility of this being interfered with by unauthorised persons. (4) Petrol level gauge moved to a more upright position and nearer the end of the tank, in accordance with a recommendation from Sales. (5) Sump increased in area, and having vertical sides to reduce the possibility of water etc. escaping after being once collected. (6) The vent on the top of the tank has been removed and we wish to revert to the type with a pipe. We may say in this connection that it is our intention to send you a vertical filler on the side, but as the adoption of this is by no means certain the experimental tank should not be delayed on account of it. These fittings are shewn on a standard 20 gall. 'V' series tank, which is what is intended to be used. The modifications to the suspension made on the original reserve tank are cancelled.
