Sr8/ET.17.II.37 - 2 - Having, as I mentioned on the telephone, two other cars dismantled and ready to fit AC.2, we are going to follow your suggestion and fit AC.7 to I, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 crankshaft bearings and white metal to N°7. Naturally the necessary holes will be bored in the crankshaft and the intermediates will be grooved. Wishing to help you all I can to solve this latest problem, with which you must be very fed up, I would mention that B.8.GA and B.60.GA, our ex demonstration cars, which have both been fitted with AC.2 with .003" limits, had to be progressively run in until they had covered in one case 500 and in the other 300 Kms. before the engines could be considered quite free. Don tells me that he does not think, however, that the tackiness of an engine built up with AC.7 is very different from that of an engine built up with AC.2 I shall await with interest your further information on AC.2 bearings, as we have two cars, apart from the ones we are working on at present, which will need attention in the shortest time possible, one being Mr. Pierre Michelin's car, which is the worst car for roughness we have got out here; unfortunately, we have not yet been able to get it in yet... or shall I say fortunately now we are aware of the unsatisfactory position that has arisen with AC.2. Finally, I would add that we have got sufficient material in AC.7 and white metal to go straight on with our two engines we have down, and I will endeavour to tackle no more engines until I hear from you further on the matter of AC.2. Whilst I am on the subject, could I remind you that I promised Mr. Pierre Louis Dreyfus to let him have some servo levers with 35° cams to go with his aluminium drums. I presume your people must have forgotten about them, as we have never received them and he is clamouring for more servo efficiency. Could you manage to send some of these over, or have some made and, if necessary, charge us with them. I should be very much obliged. Trusting you will soon solve this new problem and, believe me, you have all my sympathy. As the French people would say: "Il y a de quoi devenir cinglé" on the bearings! Yours sincerely, Sr. For SR [Signature] [Handwritten on left margin]: R.F. Martindale | ||
