X. 8430 To EY. from DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to CJ. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} S E C R E T. DAL/M29.4.25. 'V' SERIES. STEERING. Herewith we send N.sch. 1984 shewing what Mr. Royce instructs shall be done with the bottom of the steering column in the place of the present flange pressed up out of tube. It will be seen that the proposal is a drop forging and we expect that probably by machining out the inside, or possibly by forging it out, you will be able to make this forging reasonably light. The connection of the volts is very much stronger than in the previous sheet metal design. It is understood that this is to replace the original flange, and also those in which it was proposed to braze on a reinforcing piece.
