INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE IGNITION TIMING OF EAC.3 ENGINE.

VERSION 1.

(1) The engine must be cranked until cylinder No.1 is 15° (2.25" on the flywheel periphery) past top dead centre on its working stroke. In this position, mark L.I. (i.e. late battery ignition) on the flywheel, is opposite the index finger at the top of the flywheel. (This coincidence would, of course, also occur if No.6 cylinder were 15° past top dead centre on its working stroke).

(2) Fully retard the ignition lever and then set the battery ignition contact breaker cam to be just on the point of causing the break to be taking place (when turning forward) corresponding to cylinder No.1

A more accurate method of doing this than the paper method would be to connect in series with the contact points a small lamp and battery, and adjust the cam until in turning the L.I. mark past the top, the lamp goes out at the instant of passing.

N.B. No alteration should be made to the platinum gap set as received, the setting of this gap having been covered by the production inspection, adjustment and test of the ignition distributor and contact breaker on the bench.

Contd.
