Mr. Hives pointed out at a discussion on these drives, that the present design of clutch in the 2-speed gear gave a great deal of trouble, due to the fact that on changing gear, one clutch was withdrawn and the other engaged, the period of disengagement being so short that for a fraction of a second both clutches were partly engaged. This puts a tremendous strain on the gear and has been the cause of several failures. It has now been decided to increase the clearance on the clutch operating mechanism, so that there is a definite period of no drive between the gears. | ||
