To Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} from Cy. c.c. [redacted] (N.Y.) c.c. [redacted] c.c. [redacted] c.c. [redacted] c.c. Ha. c.c. [redacted] c.c. [redacted] c.c. [redacted] Oy4/BM.4.6.30. L.H. P.II Chassis. R.R.A.I. and Brewsters have made various requests and suggestions for P.II chassis to improve coachwork conditions which I have discussed with you, but which I have now attempted to get together in attached ½ scale sketch. In this sketch I also show various of my own suggestions. Will try to put the whole lot forward in an orderly manner. (1) First of all there is the suggested back line of Beck's print No.16961, which you have already seen. This line is shown in sketch A-A compared with your back line of R.Sch.3070. It involves no greater overall length but is 18½" at the kick-up against your 17". From Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}2/E29.5.30 I gather there is no objection to this as the tank can be dropped whenever any work has to be done on it. I have written U.S. however, that I think it would be better to make this dimension 21" rather than 18½" so as to allow access to petrol connection and air-pipe flange ahead of back rail. The consideration is apparently of appearance pure and simple. (2) In addition, Beck asks for a possible back line 4" to 6" further back for occasional special large seven passenger jobs. This line I have marked "extra long" (B-B). (3) Also for a possible 24" at kick up for the longest jobs with rear bustle. Have marked this approx. line on sketch as "Max.Roadster Line". (4) Brewsters say that they require 34½" from front of rear cushion to outside back of body "at belt line". Taking this height as 26" above frame I find that your corresponding figure on R.Sch.3070 is 31½", but several Barker drawings claim as much as 33" or 34" for back cushions on E and D steering bodies. The claim is that this is necessary for Brewster standards of comfort. I have no further details except that from rear angle of cushion to back of body is 14" with 1½" allowed for framing and 20" cushion. On R.Sch.3070 you have 21" cushion plus 10½" from angle of cushion to back of body. cont'd.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} | ||
