1772 To Er. from Oy. c. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. Byv Oy3/DM.{D. Munro}4.6.30. Change Speed Lever. L.H.P.II. May I suggest on this lever, following our conversations, that the smoothness of shift could be improved bythe use of a spring-loaded pressure-ring below the ball, and that jingling might be prevented by removing the spring- catch for reverse and substituting a set up spring of about 20-30 lbs to keep the lever out of the reverse slot. On the L.H. S.Ghost we originally used a reproduction of the central shift 20 h.p. lever which centralised the lever between a convex and hollow spherical surface, but found it difficult to get smooth action without binding or jangling. Further the ring nut on the tower worked loose. By forming a ball on the lever and pressing it up from below with a spring-loaded pressure ring, smoothness of action was improved, jingling was overcome and at the same time loosening was stopped by holding the cap down with a four bolt flange. Have attached print A.{Mr Adams} All parts are cadmium plated to guard against rust and provide a slight amount of inherent lubrication. Oy. | ||
