EFC. PB77. Jan 29th 1923. X.2894. X.4357. ENDURANCE TEST OF PARTS FITTED TO GOSHAWK IGNITION. The bench Goshawk ignition rig has completed a second run of 10,000 miles, this time fitted with the following parts for test. Eska tungsten points. Grey fibre rubbing block, the remainder of the units being standard including a stabalite coil. Contact Points. Eska A.N [handwritten] At the end of 2,445 miles slight missing occurred which was found to be due to particles of rubbing block sticking to the faces of the points. It was also noticed about the same time that bad missing occurred, when the current to the coil was reversed; probably the result of the manner of the deposition of the metal at the contact points. Missing again occurred after about 7000 miles (due to the points themselves) but on the whole sparking was fairly good to the end of the test. The points have the same hard pitted, discoloured surface, characteristic of tungsten, although not to such an extent as those tungsten points run on 40/50 ignition. Rubbing Block. As when testing the bakelite block, the cam was kept free from lubrication. The maximum wear of the grey fibre block is .008" i.e. from .261" to .253" as compared with Contd. | ||
