Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}1/ML. DATE 9th Oct.1940. Messrs, Rolls-Royce Limited, D E R B Y . For the attention of Mr. Robotham. Dear Sirs, With reference to our recent telephone conversation with you regarding your letter of the 23rd August, we herewith confirm the information we gave you to the effect that Mr. Ringheim of Messrs. Rolls-Royce Inc., Detroit, had kindly advised our American friends Messrs. Builders Iron Foundry that so far no orders had been placed in America and that there was no competition to their large Drilling and Rifling machines offered by us on the 21st August. We also confirm having passed on to you information given to us to the effect that the only competition to their Deep Hole Drilling Reaming & Rifling machines was that of Messrs. Pratt & Whitney whose deliveries were much longer. As you will appreciate we were, therefore, somewhat disappointed to hear from you that all the machines you were likely to require had already been ordered by the B.P.C. in New York and you would, therefore, not be proceeding further with our offers. cont: | ||
