Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} -2- 02/C14.1.27. (c) A more efficient method of silencing the exhaust. (You have, in your experimental reports, given us details of the degree of efficiency of this part.) (d) The lightening of bodies generally by modifications in design which are, at this moment, receiving very great attention. (5) CLUTCH HARSHNESS AND JAGGER. We note your Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 2/LG29.11.26. In dealing with this item, we want you to realise that we do not necessarily complain of the design in respect of the various cases of jaggering clutch we have had, for we have not necessarily even considered whether this trouble may be traced to design or workmanship. What we are anxious to effect is that the clutch in service shall not give trouble by jaggering. (6) UNRELIABILITY OF SLIPPER DRIVE. We note you agree re this item. (7) BRAKES SQUEAKING & BUMPING. We are glad to know that you feel reasonably optimistic about these two troubles not occurring unduly in future, though, of course, squeaking is an annoyance which does not always turn up until a man has run his car some thousands of miles. We feel your experiments in relation to damping device with the brake drums must have an important aspect in this connection. We note, however, this is constantly receiving your attention. (8) SPRINGS SQUEAKING AND DIGGING IN. Br. {T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} has frequently remarked on cases of this nature where the springs have dug in, causing squeaks which no lubrication assists. (9) BAD PETROL FILLER AND GENERAL TANK IMPROVEMENTS. This item becomes included in No.2. (10) ENGINE SQUEAKS AND PISTON SQUAWKS AND KNOCKS. We note your remarks on this, and we shall hope to have some further information soon. (11) ENGINE GEARS AND DYNAMO DRIVE RATTLE. We understand this matter is receiving close attention. (12) OVEROILING AND SMOKY EXHAUST. We are rather concerned to learn from "N" that a number of cases of over-oiling with 20's have been met with recently. We shall be glad to know whether Hm. {Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} and EP. {G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} have also had occasion to note this tendency. (13) EXHAUST SPIT ON RETARD. This is an item that is often complained of. | ||
