Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} -3- (14) NOISY TAPPETS. We note you think this should be deleted. (15) APPEARANCE OF PETROL AND OIL FILLER CAPS, ETC. We note your remarks. (16) BATTERY IGNITION POINTS BURNING. This item is Battery Ignition Points "Burning", not "Bouncing". You apparently thought it was "Bouncing" when you stated you had never heard of this fault. We have had a number of cases of cars giving trouble in this respect. Hm. {Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} will probably be able to give you instances. (17) BREAKAGE OF INDUCTION PIPES, & EXHAUST JOINTS BLOWING OUT. We note a modified design has been tested, and we shall no doubt hear in due course whether you decide to adopt the new design or not. (18) BONNET RATTLES. This is no doubt bound up with new bonnet clips, which we understand you are contemplating giving improving. (19) WATER LEAKS INTO CRANK CHAMBER. We understand you now consider this satisfactory, and it can accordingly be knocked out of our list. (20) OIL LEAKS FROM WATER PUMP DRIVE. This appears to be a case where oil is found to leak when the pump is in operation, for no reason whatever. We should like you, if possible, to suggest a remedy. In view of the further explanation given above, can you now let us know if you, and the other Works Officials, agree that the order should be as set out in your memo:- (1) STARTER FAILURES. (2) UNRELIABILITY OF SLIPPER DRIVE. (3) IMPROVEMENT IN PETROL FILTERS. (4) STEERING CONTROL. (5) POOR PERFORMANCE (or shall we call it INCREASE IN EFFICIENCY). Squeaking brakes C. | ||
