Dy{F R Danby}/NG (crossed out) 402. c. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}7/G.29.4.39. B.5. REAR AXLE. We wish to replace the studs holding the crown wheel to the differential cage by set screws, on the B.V. .650 Hypoid semi-floating rear axle, and attach G.CD.1351 shewing the proposal. We also wish to use a locking plate of the double ended type, and have chosen an existing one and made the pitch of the set screws to suit. This is in spite of this type of locking plate being frowned upon. A point that arises is that, as not infrequently happens elsewhere, the standard set screws are totally unsuited for this job. We have, however, shewn one for the experiment, but if there is any evidence of beating down the threads, we shall have to ask for a special set screw with a reasonable amount of plain stem. Would you please instruct experimentally. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Handwritten note: 31/5 to Mr Tuck | ||
