W/S. {Derby Works / Sales} To Bt. {Capt. J. S. Burt - Engineer} From Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Lid. {A. J. Lidsey} J4426.? Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Lid. {A. J. Lidsey} 2/KT.30.3.31. ANDRE TELECONTROL FRICTION SHOCK ABSORBERS. We have had a set of Hartford shock absorbers, controllable from the driver's seat, fitted up on one of our cars, but have not done any serious investigations on them. The range of adjustment on the hand control varied the damper loads approximately 20 lbs. to 60 lbs. We experienced no trouble with the breaking of the control wire and should not anticipate that this would happen provided that the installation is carried out in a reasonably good manner. The effort required to operate the adjustment is not great so that the stress in the bowden cables is quite low. In the event of the control breaking it is possible to set the dampers by removing a split pin and tightening up one nut (on each damper) the required amount and afterwards refitting the split pin. As regards the cost, we understand from our Order Office that the price paid for two sets (which were fitted to cars at customer's request) was £11.2.0. per set less 40%. The type of shock absorber suitable for our cars is known as 306M. There is no reason why we should not obtain a set for you at a similar figure. Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Lid. {A. J.
