Report on Exhaust swan neck lagged with asbestos cord. L 477. The latest swan necks that have been lagged are satisfactory, and I recommend that it is adopted. At the same time we can give up the lagging on the rear silencer, we have made tests and find it is quite satisfactory to leave it off. The lagging was left off the exhaust pipe on 2700 series so that now we shall only have the front silencer lagged, and it is very necessary there. There is a saving in weight of 4.5 lbs per car by leaving off the lagging and fixing the asbestos cord. The asbestos cord which was on these experimental swan necks was nearly .5 dia., the Drawing asks for .375" I suggest the next lot that is bought should be under size rather than over, because the difference in the outside and inside radius of the bend makes it difficult to cover with thick cord. | ||
