It will be an advantage when testing the battery ignition to have the lower battery voltage resulting from the battery not being on charge. Further, it will be an advantage to have a position in which the car can be run without charge, because this position can be used if considered desirable for switching over momentarily for the purpose of putting the auto switch again into action on a long run upon which it has operated early, and the battery has discharged several ampere-hours in working the battery ignition. To many drivers, it would be of interest to see how long the charge would again be given to the battery before the auto switch again operated.
