X4545 To P.N. from Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to B.J. Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 2/LG10.10.22. 4-GOSHAWK-11. X4545 Referring to your PN {Mr Northey} 17/DN6.10.22. It would be very helpful if you could send us a further report of your impression of 4-Goshawk-11 now that it has been returned to you fitted with the 13/60 axle. We expect, of course, that you will always be able to criticise points on the car and we expect improvements will always be incorporated in the chassis at various intervals. When we tried the car before it went to London last Sunday, we considered that the worst feature on it was the vibration at 20 m.p.h. Unfortunately or fortunately, 4-Goshawk-11 is the worst example we have of this vibration. We are very anxious to get hold of this car again in order to complete our investigations as to why this car is much worse than the other cars in this respect. With reference to your criticisms on the smokey exhaust. We believe that under average running conditions, there would be very little to criticise as regards this. We can understand that for demonstration work it would be a serious objection. R. {Sir Henry Royce} is keen that we should not try and get abnormally low oil consumption on this engine.
