HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RM.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} WARNER GEARBOX. Thank you for your HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}1/KW14331. We had seen the Warner gearbox with synchro-mesh operation about a month ago, and considered then whether it might not be a solution of some of our difficulties. We feel however that we do not know enough about the synchro-mesh. The thing we should doubt is whether it would stand up. We have also seen the new Buick synchro-mesh device and notice on both this and the Warner that there are indications that the job is not quite so easy as it seems. We see for instance that the Warner have increased their side lever leverage presumably to get more power, while on the Buick we notice large diameters for the cones, and in both cases very shallow cone angles. We are quite willing however to put the matter up to R.{Sir Henry Royce} for his consideration as one of the possible alternatives. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
