[/Handwritten] [Body] With reference to the arrangement at St.{Capt. P. R. Strong} Albans that we should send you information to the fitting of the Phantom shock damper to the rear of the 25HP., we have looked into this question. The first thing that strikes us is that a great deal of alteration seems to be involved, and we doubt when we have done it all whether we shall have sufficient room. If we could have had a new battery similar to the narrow one proposed for J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 3., which might in fact be the same battery and fixings, it would have assisted us, but still there would be the extensive alterations to the brake gear on a model which we understand will shortly cease to be made. The greatest snag however to us is the difficulty of making a reasonable set of brackets to carry the damper off the frame. Our difficulties are illustrated on N. scheme 2173., a temporary proposal which we do not think R.{Sir Henry Royce} would pass. We also bear in mind that we are designing a new damper intended to be universal, in which we shall attempt to make it suitable for carrying on both cars in a reasonable way. In view of the above considerations we are convinced that the best way is to give you a modified body for the rear 25HP. damper and use the P. 2. end cover, no other modifications being required.
