x4057 Hotel de France Chateauroux Indre To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} From GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} 28.2.33. PEREGRINE We are endeavouring to fit the plain bottom half, but it is causing a lot of unnecessary work that ought to have been seen at Derby. The pipe leading out of the bottom half fouled the cross steering tube. We have led it through the bottom at the same place. The pipe from the release to this connection was 1 1/2" too short for original position. No studs have been sent for the extra block of the release unit. There was no bottle fitted to the pipe from the pump to enable the thermometer to be fitted, you will realize the time that has to be spent to rectify these features. We hope to complete this job to-night and obtain tests in the morning. The difference between our scheme and the one sent out are: Our scheme Gallery pipe fitted to right hand side of engine and feeding by unions direct into each compartment. The feed for the gallery pipe is direct from the bottom of release unit fitted, a 1/8" hole release is left to feed the front of engine and camshaft. The oil for pump supply is taken from the centre compartment. The bridge pieces between the compartments made higher to prevent swishing of oil from one compartment to the other. The feed hole between the centre and rear compartment made 3/4". Scheme sent out Gallery pipe fitted to left hand side of engine and carried down to bottom of base with final sprays. The supply is taken by a special block fitted behind the present relief unit. No oil is fed to the front of engine or camshaft. The bridge pieces between the compartments are low and oil will swish over. The feed for the pump is taken from the rear compartment. The feed hole between the centre and rear compartment is more than 5/8" but under 3/4". The sump carries 1 1/4 gallons against 1 1/2 of ours. GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} | ||
