X4057 Mr.G.W.Hancock, c/o Hotel de France, Chateauroux, Indre. FRANCE. To GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}4/KT.2.3.33. Thank you for your note of 28.2.33. I am sorry that the bottom half was not quite right, and that you have had to modify it to get it on the car. Naturally the height of the baffles can be anything you wish to make it. We must be careful that both the Peregrine and the Bensport have their oil thermometers recording the maximum oil temperature at the particular point where they are fitted. We are now ready for our series of experiments on the test bed, blowing air across the bottom half, and we shall therefore obtain some results. In comparing Peregrine and Bensport, a noticeable difference is that Bensport has a timing gear case in the front, whereas Peregrine has not. We think that the timing case will be a very good cooler because the hot lubricant is flung off the gears in a fine spray. As a quick test to see if the timing gear case is a good cooler, we should like you to take a curve of the maximum oil temperature at various speeds as you did on Peregrine, and then cover the timing case with an insulating material such as asbestos mud and repeat the run. We are still waiting for some consumptions from you with the altered needles.(PER) We should like you to see if you can stop the loss of water from the Bensport radiator, but we are not very worried about this as long as it does not get very much worse. We should be glad to know if you are satisfied with the KLG. plugs on Peregrine. Lodge are preparing an improved X.318 which we shall send out to you. | ||
