Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X8950 PN{Mr Northey}2/DN3.7.26. TO WOR{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} [struck through] c. to EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} & Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} FROM PN{Mr Northey} 103-MC - London Open Trials Phantom. This car is one of the two which has been sent to Kelso to the Duke of Roxburghe in connection with the Prince of Wales' visit. It was sent to Derby last week for hydraulic shock-absorbers to be fitted in front and to have the engine decarbonised. The engine had been running well previously. I understood from EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} that there was a slight piston tap when cold and that you were therefore dealing with this. We now hear from Boot, the driver, that there is engine trouble. He has also had battery ignition trouble. I have instructed that this car shall go straight to the Works from Kelso and it should arrive on Sunday evening. The modification indicated in Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}5/LG2.7.26 referring to the hydraulic dampers, can then be made at the same time as any necessary work done to the engine in view of Boot's report. This car has to cross over to France on Friday and we are most anxious to get it in London as early as possible. Consequently, any work done must come under the category of being very urgent. P.N.
