BJ. from EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} c. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} (struck through) c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. HY.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} (struck through) c. RN.{Mr Robinson} (struck through) c. CWB. (struck through) re. Bt.{Capt. J. S. Burt - Engineer} 118-MC. 48950 EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}1/H.3 7.26. With reference to your BJ9/E30.6.26. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} is arranging for Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} to report fully on the points raised in Bt{Capt. J. S. Burt - Engineer}'s report. In going through this report it did not occur to me that there were any really new features complained of other than features which have already been raised, and have already been brought to the attention of the Experimental Dept. I submit that Bt.{Capt. J. S. Burt - Engineer} is in a position to know of criticisms which have been raised from time to time by us and is able to act in a fuller capacity than would the ordinary customer. I would certainly like to try this car, so as to appreciate, if possible, to what extent the points raised are features which have not been made the best of in comparison with our present standard production. It may also be considered an advantage for the car to be tried by the Experimental Dept. for them to appreciate the intensity and the importance of the complaints made. Judging from the second and third paragraphs of the report, the complaint seems sufficiently serious for R.{Sir Henry Royce} himself to try the car. I notice, however, that CWB. is trying this car, and his report will, I take it, cover the above points. As regards the foot accelerator pedal coming adrift - we have had this complaint before, but we are quite sure that chassis, when leaving the Works are O.K. in this respect. We have, however, definite evidence that the pedal mechanism is interfered with when the bodies are being built, and we are already in touch with the C.S.C. to take the matter up with the Coachbuilders to avoid further recurrence. Accelerator pedals also taken off to fix blocks on. Could instruction be given that bodies should be fixed without removing the pedal plate, which is part of the chassis? We should have an opportunity of inspecting the electrical complaints referred to, so that action can be taken by the parties concerned, whether it is Coachbuilders work or Chassis work, as referred to above.
