X4187 To Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from BJ. Copies to PN. {Mr Northey} Dy. {F R Danby} Sg. {Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} BJ3/H11.12.22. [STAMP: Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} DEC 11 1922] MAGNETO FOR 20 HP. Car. Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 2/LG8.12.22. It is necessary that we send cars to certain countries with magnetos. As to how many of these should go forward with the present type of magneto must of course depend on how long it takes to obtain and thoroughly test the Swiss-made magneto. I understand certain demonstrating cars are being sent to our oversea depots and agents very shortly and Sg. {Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} will inform you on what dates these will be sent. It is undesirable that we should stop all our export business whilst we are experimenting with the Swiss-made magneto, but as soon as you are convinced by the usual practical tests, that you are able to fit a magneto to the 20 h.p. which is better than the present magneto, we can doubtless then arrange to fit your improved magneto to any cars which are being sent abroad, and which have not been delivered. Doubtless our depots and agents who will demonstrate our cars will be sufficiently expert to use the hand ignition control, and therefore this should not be any great disadvantage for the present, and we shall hope to have the automatically controlled magneto by the time cars are being sent to customers.
