RECORD OF TELEPHONE CONVERSATION WITH WW. - 11.12.31.

RE JAPAN 111 AND PEREGRINE - ELECTRICAL SYSTEM.

STARTER MOTORS.

It was agreed that we should make designs for the starter motors for both of the above chassis. J.111 should be 4.5 outside. Peregrine between 3.625 and 3.750.

On Japan 111 a larger pinion on the motor is arranged for, also the centre distance between the crankshaft and starter motor axes is fixed on one of the LeC's.

The larger pinion is tucked away inside the motor as before, and since the outside diameter is not increased it means that the length of the starter motor carcass is to be increased as the windings will have to be clear of the end bearing, whereas before they were tucked into a recess between the outside diameter of the end bearing and the inside diameter of the carcass.

The system which is to be adopted is the 40/50 scheme. The relay switch will remain the same, but the main switch may be slightly different. The push button switch would not be altered, as its duty would unquestionably be the same in each case.

DYNAMO.

On both chassis it is proposed to have a system following the Bosch i.e. a vibratory control working in conjunction with an ordinary shunt wound dynamo. In the Bosch scheme there are two stages :-

a/- A resistance is thrown into series with the fields.

b/- The field is short circuited, and therefore the dynamo completely cutout.
