TO HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} FROM EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} ORIGINAL COPY TO SIDE WHEEL CARRIERS. We take it that with the introduction of diamond engine mounting on both P.2. & the 25.HP. the side wheel carrier will be steadied by a stay from the dashboard. In these cases the bonnet only passes over the dashboard edge about .200. We are anxious to standardise bonnets lengthened 3ins. and 6ins. on the 25.HP. & P.2. respectively. In the case of the 25HP. we believe that the stay could come from the back of the pot on the dash and pass through the scuttle panel. We have drawn such a stay on N.Sch.3399 which we send herewith. The wheel is moved back about 2ins. to enable the stay to clear the back of the bonnet which is 3ins. behind the back of the dash. On this scheme we also show a revised shape of wheel carrier tube which would enable a drop-sided bonnet to be used on the same side as the wheel. This would be a great help in getting a good finish to our cars. It also gets the tube socket out of the way of the dropped side of the bonnet. It will be realised that it not necessary that this scheme be tested on a car having a longer bonnet. In the case of P.2. this scheme could be used for a bonnet up to 3.500ins. aft of the back of the dash but not for the one proposed which is 6.000ins. In the case of P.2. however, we understood that the internal stays to the dash had proved satisfactory. If that is so we suggest that they be used. We believe that we have now removed all the technical obstacles in the way of standardising the longer bonnets on both cars if N.Sch. 3399. is satisfactory.
