We have dismantled the pistons and found that all the piston ring stops are breaking off, No.1 and 3 pistons are so far alright. On No.6 the top two rings had seized up solid, all the stops had broken off and had worked their way through the metal underneath each ring band, leaving the exhaust or compression a free outlet into the inner part of the piston by way of the oil drain holes of the scraper ring.

We are obtaining a standard piston from the Paris Depot to carry on with. I am enclosing two pieces of the stops retrieved from under the piston rings.

We have sent you the following telegram :-

CAR HELD UP ALL PISTON RING STOPS BREAKING.

NO. SIX PISTON SCRAP OBTAINING PISTON FROM PARIS.

HANCOCK.

We noticed that the valve springs are cutting into the bottom washers rather a fair amount, something will have to be done to prevent this.
