Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. Mr Coverley. BY2-P13.12.23. E.A.C.1. 11. & 111. Referring to my previous memo BY7-P161023, outlining what the various proposals were under the above headings, from information I have just received from Mr Royce, it is evident that considerable changes have been made in the proposals, which will affect the material which is at present on order, particularly for E.A.C.11. It will be noted, of course, that the material ordered for E.A.C.11, which is now not suitable under the new scheme, will, to a considerable extent, be usable on E.A.C.111. E.A.C.111, will remain, in general terms, as before, although different designs for certain units have been replaced from time to time, in consequence of which we have stopped work on quite a number of units in the Works. The general outline for E.A.C.111. is the present 40/50 engine with front wheel brakes working from a servo system on the rear of the present 4 speed box. The modifications in this scheme consist mainly in:- a/- The Distributing Equalising Gear has been redesigned. b/- Three different designs have been received for testing out purposes for the front wheel brake arrangement - the variations in design being mainly in connection with the type of shoe and the operation of same. c/- Front springs increased 25% in strength and lengthened from 42" to 45". In regard to E.A.C.11. from R1/M101223, and R2/M101223, it is evident that drastic changes have been made from the original proposals. As outlined in memo contd. | ||
