BY2-P13.12.23. contd. - 2 - quoted above, E.A.C.11, now consists of;- a/- E.A.C.1. Engine mounted similar to the 20HP, in the chassis and fitted with an engine vibration damper b/- A new Starter Motor & Starter System generally is now proposed, which is located on the Crankcase of the engine. This therefore cancels the original proposal to use the 40/50 Starter Gear. c/- a 4 Speed Box is being designed by R.{Sir Henry Royce} which will form one unit with the engine and will carry a servo mechanism geared down in the ratio of 20 - 1 of the transmission. This servo will be of a single plate specially cooled type, entirely different from the proposals in force for E.A.C.111. d/- The D.O. should note particularly that the geared ring of the Flywheel has again become necessary for E.A.C.11, whilst the clutch will, to some extent, be modified in carrying the Gearbox directly off the Crankcase. e/- Torque Tube & Propeller Shaft will have to be modified f/- Considerable modifications are being made to the Frame, which I think will necessitate new dies. This matter I have discussed with DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}, and am awaiting Frame and rough outline of the Side Member to their new requirements. g/- Front wheel brakes with 45" springs similar to those which will be used for E.A.C.111. The Front Axle, in fact, will apparently be the same with the whole of the brake mechanism in connection with it. From the foregoing it will be seen that E.A.C.11 is now, to all intents and purposes, a new chassis - it therefore appears to me that the only reasonable thing to do at the moment is to cancel any work called for under E.A.C.11. beyond the engine, until we know more about the matter.
