81487 Expl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}1/MJ.25.7.31. July 25th.1931. The S.U.Carburetter Co., East Works, Bordesley Green Rd., Adderley Park, BIRMINGHAM. For the attention of Mr. Skinner. Dear Mr. Skinner, We are returning to you under separate cover the small S.U. carburetter which you sent us for the 25 HP. as we find that this is not large enough for the unit and the 5/8" throttle model is quite satisfactory for the job. You will be wondering what the position is with regard to all the various carburetters you have let us have, and I will therefore give you the following summary. (1) Two carburetters for the 40/50. We have carried out a number of tests on these with fairly good results. (2) Down-Draught carbs. for 25 HP. We have been waiting for tests on these but unfortunately had a mechanical failure on the unit which delayed the job. We shall be getting some figures after the holidays. (3) Single Horizontal Carb. for the existing 25 HP. 1.5/8" throttle diameter. We have really been concentrating on this test, the reason being that we want to demonstrate the S.U. carburetter as a carburetter. Having previously carried out tests with us you will know the reasons and partly there is to any other proprietary make of carburetter other than Rolls-Royce. Therefore the thing we are most anxious to do is to demonstrate that an S.U. carburetter could manage to give as good or better results in every respect, as our existing standard carburetter. | ||
