To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to BJ. RG.{Mr Rowledge} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} RR. F.10. CARBURETTERS. IMPROVED X.3933 RR. TYPE FOR VEE. X.3841 Referring to your memo. of the 23rd, I had refrained from sending you a rough scheme of the above, (against my own judgement) in view of your definite instructions to submit only schemes which have been criticised by the Design Committee, and representing the final of what is to be made if you were not available. In compliance with your request however please find herewith blue print of Lec.2373 shewing the design as far as it has got. In the first place the diabolo float appears to work in remarkably well. The float we have shewn on the scheme is a complete diabolo with a yoked frame, but we should like some arrgt. such as the two half diabolo which would enable us to put a stud in the joint where it really seems to need one. SEE ORIGINAL FOR SKETCHES. We note your remarks re. float in memo. of the 23rd, and are looking into this point. Does it not appear that if a complete diabolo float is used then a yoke is not necessary since the float is torsionally stiff. SKETCH. It has been necessary to raise the throttle valves but not the induction pipes for the reason shewn in the sketch. This unfortunately brings the throttle control shaft into collision with the sparking plug spanner but not so badly as to render it impossible to operate if a waisted spanner be used. The top of the engine may have to go up to get room for the water pipe, but not very much. We shew a suggested revision of the idling jet and channel, but Derby has not seen this jet. It cuts out rather earlier than they suggest, but one would think without harm. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
