Many thanks for your letter re the front floor of the above car. The print G.CD.962 has an incorrect gearbox, and also an incorrect front floor. It was given to M.Paulin to shew him other features of the chassis. The gearbox on the car is correct, and we have supplied a metal centre-floorboard, the front end of which is carried on the dash, and the rear end is supported on a body crossmember which has to be provided immediately behind the back end of the gearbox. We are enclosing a print of F.CD.1033 which shews the sheet steel centre board and this crossmember which you will notice has to be a fabricated square section steel tube to get the required rigidity in the limited space. The wooden boards extend each side between this steel centre board and the body sidemembers. They are cut out well clear of the gear lever gate, and the edges of the board are lined with soft felt to fill in the gap. The real gastight joint is made by means of a stocking as on Wraith lll. and Bentley. The hand brake lever is exactly similar to that of Wraith lll. and should be treated accordingly. I understand that Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} and I are to fly over to see you on Monday next, when we can give you any further details. Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} | ||
