Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hm {Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} 20/W21.9.25. Chassis No. GMK.49 - G.D. Flather. This owner has complained for some time about the Steering of his car. He is extremely critical and objects to the slightest movement of the Steering Wheel, which is transferred from the Road Wheels due to road shocks caused by pot-holes. We have tried everything we know to overcome his trouble, but have not been successful in satisfying him. The work which has been carried out is as follows:- New Pivot Pins and Bushes. The Friction Washers on the Pivot Pins have been made to give as much friction as possible. Stronger Road Springs have been fitted. Wheels balanced. Experiments with different lean of Pivot. Different settings of the front Shock Absorbers. The amount of improvement obtained by all these different experiments is practically nil. A further experiment of fitting a latest type Front Axle for the Front Wheel Brake made some improvement. This was the most noticeable improvement we found. The owner is an exceptionally difficult man, and we fear that with the present design we shall never be able to satisfy him. We shall greatly appreciate any advice or suggestions which you can offer as a means of trying to satisfy him. Hm. {Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} | ||
