ROY{Sir Henry Royce}1/MG20.3.35 Modified Instruments for Rolls-Royce Chassis ----------------------------------------- Arising out of our various correspondence - also discussions - re above, kindly note we now have a definite statement from Messrs. S.Smith & Sons, which, briefly summarised, is as under: 1 - Commencing 4 months from now they are prepared to supply such modified instruments, the modifications consisting of:- (a) Concave dial. (b) The addition of a bezel and glass in the case. (c) New improved magnet steel with latest design of shielding for speedometer. (d) The lightened type Speedometer with larger trip figures. 2 - With the exception of the Speedometer - which will be 3/6d less due to the fact we are having the lighter type case - the prices will remain as hitherto; the only stipulation Smiths make being that we give them an undertaking there shall be no serious alteration in design during at least two seasons. By two seasons we understand the period ending December 31st.1936. This stipulation is made as they will be faced with considerable tool charges in introducing the modifica- tions outlined. Please advise if in agreement, bearing in mind that in giving this undertaking we are committing ourselves to Smith's Instruments, and Smith's instruments only, for such period. If it is agreed, we suggest Smiths also give us an undertaking to reserve such concave dial instruments to R.R. for a similar period. ROY.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
