WST H6135. S/W. ROY.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to Ss.{S. Smith} c. " Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. Cx{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager}23/KW22.3.35. Modified Instruments for R-R Chassis. In reply to ROXY1/MG20.3.35, we are in agreement with your giving Smiths an undertaking that there shall be no serious alteration in the design of these instruments during at least two seasons, i.e. during the period ending 31st December 1936. With regard to the sample instruments which have been submitted with the concave dials, bezel and glass and improved lighting, we find that Smiths have not accurately copied the design of the figures which we selected sometime ago. I have therefore handed to Smiths to-day the blue print which E sent to me yesterday with EE/HP21.3.35, and asked them to copy that design exactly but scaling down the size of the figures by the necessary amount. They have promised to submit the design of these new figures for the dials as quickly as possible, which is as far as I can see the only point now outstanding for our approval. Meantime please do not wait for the signing of the standardisation sheet in connection with these instruments if it is likely to cause further delay. I think it is clearly understood that these modified instruments, etc. are for both the 40/50 and 20/25 chassis. It would be useful to obtain from Smiths an undertaking that they will reserve such concave dial instruments exclusively for Rolls-Royce. Cx.{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager} | ||
