25/30 HP. continued

(2) To get the life of the 'L' section piston rings. These have not run so far.

(3) To get endurance running on the low rating road springs and roll rod. These were only fitted quite recently and have only covered 2,500 miles.

The main bearings have now been examined and are breaking up. The car will therefore return on December 19th, in the meantime running at moderate speeds on bad roads.

Petrol Consumption

Tests are being carried out to try and improve the petrol consumption on the 25/30. Amongst other things suction ignition control.

Outside filler for Petrol Tank.

This matter has been considered and a design got out for tilting the flush filler of the Bentley about 20°. We hope to fit this to C.B.IV. before it goes to France.

Exhaust Valves

Improvements have been made in the new cylinder head by modifying the shape of the port and increasing the size of the exhaust valve. Tests are continuing.

WRAITH

If the Frame Makers keep their promise we shall have a skeleton chassis ready for body mounting by Christmas. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} expects that by working overtime Park Wards will be able to let us have the body by the end of December. We should have a reasonably complete car by the end of January.

No endeavour is being made to get costs out for the first Wraith car other than economies effected by the designs already produced.

It is considered advisable to get the car running as soon as possible to see how the new features such as the independent suspension and gear box function.
