RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer} 1113. Kingsbury. 7.4.37. P.III STEERING./ Cricklewood have drawn my attention to the number of thin washers used in setting the cam and roller in the steering. In one particular case dismantled recently, there were 21 packing washers used. They claim a more rigid job could be obtained by using fewer and thicker washers. The washers used for setting the roller are being damaged by the lining up tool, samples of which I am sending to you. I am also sending you a cracked roller race taken out of steering belonging to GWN.31 mileage 1,751. Kingsbury state they had a lot of this trouble until they made the housing for the race a tool room job. Would you please let the Expt. Dept. see it.
