X8420 Wer. Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ---- BY6/H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 18.11.25. NEW PHANTOMCodename for PHANTOM I FRONT AXLE. --------------------- With the object of reducing the tendency for the front road wheels to set up high speed wobbles, R.{Sir Henry Royce} has written me pointing out that he is sending a new design which modifies the whole of the front axle. He suggests that this will have to be adopted at an early date, and that we should therefore keep our stock low and avoid buying any material which can be held over, and at the same time not commit ourselves unnecessarily on steering. We have taken the matter up with Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} who is arranging to hold up material for "A" series, both A/A and A/B Sections of same. This is the best that I see we can do at the moment, so far as getting material in is concerned, aswe have already got the material for "X" and "Y", and it is practically certain that the best we can do will be to bring in the new proposal after we have completed "Y". It is important that we should not get too far ahead on machining in "Y" Series particularly, so that in the event of a new axle coming through on design, and introduced quickly, modifications being called for, we should not make any unnecessary scrap.
