Then front axle pull off springs cause T lever to move forwards bodily towards position H, closing stop M before stop D is closed.

The trouble with our present layout is that with normal brake adjustment front and rear, position K is not ahead of position L.

It is necessary to run with very small front brake clearance to make position K come ahead of L.

But we do definitely prevent servo clank so long as the friction of the suspension is adequate, the cams sensitive in their action and the front brakes kept adjusted close.

By raising the pivot-center of the T lever upwards as to O, we make certain that for any normal front and rear brake settings position K will always be ahead of L.

May I add that above attempted "explanations" are the outcome of hours of patient watching, and "fiddling", with rear wheels jacked up leading first of all (about 2 years ago) to the practice of keeping our front brakes adjusted close, secondly to the need of adequate suspension-friction, thirdly to the ball-cam levers, and finally to the attempt by changing the suspension point of the T lever to dispense with the necessity of close front-brake adjustment.

Very truly yours,

ROLLS ROYCE OF AMERICA, INC.

Maurice Olley
