1263 EXPERIMENTAL DEPARTMENT. 18th December, 1940. Rn{Mr Robinson}/MHR.{M. H. Rigby}6/ET. The S.U. Carburetter Co., Ltd., Adderley Park, BIRMINGHAM 8. For the attention of Mr. R.L. Kent. Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter of the 6th instant. We see that you are less interested in the plunger type of petrol pump than in the development of the self-feeding carburetter. In the circumstances, we are not anxious to continue experimental work on this type of pump and we have decided to drop the matter. With regard to the H.P. petrol pumps fitted at present to our latest cars, we have a number of these pumps in our production stores, and although they have the increased depth of outer roller race in the pot, the red fibre packings are not fitted between the diaphragm and armature. Our position is that, when a pump fails, to keep the car running we usually have to replace it immediately from the production stock, one of which has failed after only 6,500 miles due to lack of the packing. The car had been running on Pool petrol. We should therefore like two dozen of the diaphragm units with packings fitted. This is being covered by an official order. Will the present diaphragms be of use to you? Yours faithfully, | ||
