OUR REF: RLK/MRC. 6th December, 1940. Handwritten: Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/MHR.{M. H. Rigby} Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. Attention of Mr. W. A.{Mr Adams} Robotham. Dear Sirs, We are in receipt of your letter of the 3rd. inst. Prior to the war we were developing a small plunger pump, a sample of which Mr. Dixon tested. We have some parts in stock, some of the castings have been machined, but we could build up a further sample for you if you wish. It is, however, probable, in our opinion, that we shall not proceed with the production of this pump when the war is over, since we anticipate that by that time the self-feeding carburetter will be fully developed, and the latter is, we think, a far more attractive proposition. We had one or two difficulties with the plunger pump. The deposit you mention was a carbon deposit which was electrically deposited on one contact or other, depending on the direction of flow. We also, at one time, had trouble with the contacts welding together, this was found to occur when an edge contact was made, and slight doming of the contacts obviated this trouble. A further trouble developed after about Ctd. | ||
