Investigation into engine misfires on a Wraith model, involving the testing of different ignition coils.

Childs}6/MB.30.9.37. MISFIRES ON WRAITH. Following a complaint of engine misfiring on 24-G-VI. we examined the FL.30.X plugs which appeared to be in good condition. It was decided in conjunction with Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Childs and Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Wym{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager} to try out several coils with the idea of finding the best coil, before condemning the plugs. Three coils were tried, RR.20000 turns, RR. 15000 turns, and a Lucas. With the RR. 15000 and the Lucas it was possible to obtain misfires, but by reversing the polarity the trouble was cured. The RR. 20000 turn coil, however, proved the best of the three tried, there being no misfiring experienced with the coil wired either way. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/W.Brazier. W.
