X58260 Hotel de France, Chateauroux, Indre, France. GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}I.Crs.7.8.25. To. "Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}" From. G.W.Hancock. Chassis 9 G.III. We left Derby on Tuesday at mid-day, as arranged. We proceeded to Conduit St.{Capt. P. R. Strong} for papers relating to the car, but found that all the offices were closed, so we had to leave these until Wednesday morning. Mr. Northey had left the car at Lillie Hall, with a note saying that the hood was slightly damaged. We left London on Wednesday morning, and arrived at Dover at 12.15 p.m. We were too late to catch the 1 p.m. boat, so arranged with the R.A.C. man to get the car over by the Boulogne route. We arrived at Chateauroux Thursday evening, the car running very well. We had no trouble, except one puncture. The steering is decidedly improved, but we did not consider that the engine power is as good as previously. Our maximum speed on the level was 56 m.p.h. Engine vibrations are less than previously, but we do not consider that very much improvement has been done as regards servo gear rattle. When the box is thoroughly warmed up, we consider that these are very bad. There is also a very nasty growl from the axle, both on retard and on pick up, at approximately 4 m.p.h. Brakes are very good speaking generally, we experienced no thumping from the front brakes on our journey down here, but we do not consider that the brakes are as efficient at high speeds, compared with the E.A.C. cars. We are holding the car up for a general examination, before proceeding on our test. G.W.Hancock. | ||
