x4694 328 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} To EY. from HDY.{William Hardy} HDY.{William Hardy}2/HP.7.12.34. c. Wer. R.{Sir Henry Royce} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} Ws. SpectreCodename for Phantom III and Wraith Gearboxes. With regard to the attachment of the gearbox to the cross in the frame, as instructed by us, the accommodation of the angle between the transmission and the frame is made in the gearbox arms. Ws. has asked that the gearbox arm should be square with the centre line of transmission, the difference of angle being made in the brackets which bolt to the cross. This can be done without any necessity for right and left hand brackets and we should be glad if you would make the necessary alterations before the boxes go into production. There does not seem to be any need to alter experimental pieces which have gone beyond the stage which they can be altered conveniently as there is no question of any alteration of the strength of the parts concerned.
