SHORTAGE OF ARMATURE WINDINGS.

We have gone into the complaint made by yourself and Paris in your memo of July 9th, in which you point out that the armature windings have rubbed against the end bracket of the dynamo to such an extent as to go through the insulation and short circuit the winding.

The cause of this trouble is that the Works have not taken advantage of the 1" length allowed for forming the coil on the end of the winding, having shortened the amount .900", which in turn has reduced the inside diameter of the winding, in conjunction with roughness of the casting and has caused the fault in question.

We have called our Works' attention to this, and also as a further safeguard I have arranged to have the end bracket machined to dimensions so that the Works will not be handicapped by rough casting dimensions being above those permitted on the drawing.
