2 6119 Delco-Remy SERVICE MANUAL the edge of the slot in the distributor base rim or until the 0° on the N side of the tool aligns with the mark scribed on the rim of the cup. (d) Loosen screws (G) and (H) and turn screw (J) until breaker arm (D) just breaks contact and then tighten screws (G) and (H). (e) Turn distributor shaft and check synchronism again. Also check contact point opening of the breaker arm (D) and if contact opening is not within specified limits reset gap and synchronize arms again, confining all adjustments to breaker arm (D). Counter-clockwise Rotation—Synchronize according to preceding instructions except align N side of the tool with the edge of the slot in the base of the distributor rim and turn to M side. If there is no slot in the rim of the distributor cup it will then be necessary to scribe marks on the rim as given in part (b) of item 2. Place tool on the breaker cam with N side of the spring in the slot of the distributor shaft. SYNCHRONIZING TOOL 1838182 (Used on distributor type 660.) Figure 3 Clockwise Rotation—These distributors are synchronized in the same manner as those shown in Figure 2, with the exception that you do not synchronize from the graduation on M side of tool to the N side. The correct interval is obtained by synchronizing from the graduation on the M side to the corresponding graduation on the center. All other synchronizing operations are the same as given for previous types of distributors shown in Figure 2. Counter-clockwise Rotation—On distributors of this type having counter-clockwise rotation the contact arms are synchronized by reading graduations from N side to the corresponding graduations at center. All other operations are the same as those given for type of distributors shown in Figure 2. SYNCHRONIZING TOOL 1835009 (Used on distributor type 668.) ROTOR SYNCHRONIZING TOOL PART NO. 1835009 Figure 4 Clockwise Rotation—1. (a) Locate the rotor terminal under No. 1 terminal with contact on stationary arm (A) just ready to open. (See Figure 4.) (b) Clamp synchronizing tool to edge of the distributor so that one edge of the rotor terminal blade aligns with 0° marking on the tool. (c) Crank engine until the same edge on rotor terminal blade aligns with 90° marking on the tool. (d) Loosen screws (G) and (H) and turn screw (I) until the points on the breaker arm (D) just open and then tighten screws (G) and (H). 2. (a) Check contact point opening again and re-set if not within specified limits. If contact point opening is approximately .022" it is not necessary to make any other adjustments but recheck synchronism of arms according to instructions given in (a), (b) and (c) of item 1 to assure proper setting. 3. If contact point opening on arm (D) is not correct set again within correct limit and synchronize according to items 1 and 2. Adjustment must be confined to arm (D). Counterclockwise Rotation—Align the edge of the rotor terminal on counter-clockwise distributors with 90° mark on synchronizing tool and turn the shaft until the same edge of the rotor terminal aligns with 0° mark. All other synchronizing operations are the same as those given in items 1, 2, and 3. DR-303 | ||
