- 10 - HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}/RH.{R. Hollingworth}1/VS.{J. Vickers}3.6.37. Exhaust Fittings LOP.E.86603. Downtake pipes, expansion box and intermediate pipe in S/M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} aluminised. These were in good condition, showing no signs of cracks or corrosion. There was an "exhaust blow" from the connection on the rear silencer to the swan-neck. An excessive amount of play had developed in the lower eye of the tail-pipe suspension link, which might have caused rattles. Petrol Tank LOP.F.88035. Tank gauge-unit fitted with gaskoid washer. The condition of this washer was good, there being no sign of a leak. Tank in good condition. Rear Stabiliser LOP.F.88037. with connecting tubes to LOP.F.87605. The silent-bloc bushes were in good condition, but the rod was turning in the inner sleeve of the O.S. bush, the nut being insufficiently tight, probably due to wear on the washer. The ends of the levers and the tops of the connecting tubes had fouled F.88706, girder for rebound strap in full "bump" position. Petrol Filter on 2nd Crossmember LeC.4721. A large amount of foreign matter composed of fabric and decayed vegetable matter, etc. was found in this, showing the efficacy of these filters. Rear Axle LOP.G.83089. N.S.4811-14. Strengthened axle shafts G.85172/3, diff. boxes, drivers, etc. etc. despatched 3.2.37 - mileage of these parts 12,000. No oil leaks were discernible on the outside of the casing before dismantling. The axle-shaft oil seals had not been very effective, especially on the N.S., where a large amount of oil had got down the tube. The O.S. driver G.54989 had fouled the axle-tube - there is insufficient clearance here. continued. | ||
